Ocean Beach Cafe recently hosted a truly memorable Thirsty Thursday BBQ in partnership with our friends at Heaps Normal, Australia’s leading non-alcoholic beer brand. We brought the classic Aussie "sausage sizzle" to San Francisco’s Ocean Beach — and despite a breezy, fog-filled summer evening, the vibes were as warm as ever.

What’s a Sausage Sizzle?

In Australian culture, a sausage sizzle is more than just grilling — it’s a beloved tradition. You’ll find them at parks, beaches, markets, and local events. It’s all about throwing sausages on the barbie, cracking open a cold drink, and catching up with friends in a chill outdoor setting. No fuss — just fire, food, and good company.

The San Francisco Twist

Set up around the Ocean Beach fire pits by Cabrillo, our team fired up the grill and served a delicious variety of sausages:

🌭 Classic pork

🌶️ Spicy links

🌶️🧄 Chorizo

🌱 Vegan dogs for our plant-based pals

Each bite was paired with an ice-cold Heaps Normal, giving everyone a chance to explore one of the best-tasting NA beers on the planet.

Though the wind was doing its thing (as it always does at Ocean Beach), we kept spirits high with a cozy bonfire, hearty laughter, and plenty of warm hands wrapped around hot sausages and cold cans.

Community, Laughter, and Non Alcoholic Good Times

Customers, regulars, and first-timers came out to join the fun — all curious to try Heaps Normal, reconnect with our Ocean Beach Cafe crew, and embrace the cool summer air. The food hit just right, the beers stayed ice-cold, and the wind turned into part of the charm — giving the evening that uniquely SF energy we love.

Thanks to everyone who came out to share a sausage, a smile, and a Heaps Normal with us. Until the next BBQ.....
